Although not all their questions have been answered, Pakatan Rakyat MPs are somewhat comforted by the Employee Provident Fund's (EPF) clarification on the RM1.5 billion home- loan plan. "It will not be loaned directly to house buyers... it's given to the government and backed by a surety 2.67 times the value of the total loan amount given by EPF," Petaling Jaya DAP MP Tony Pua said today. www.malaysiakini.com

These new amendments will be tabled for a second reading at the Parliament on Thursday, 6th Oct 2011. There is no time to waste. Let's do something. Employment Act 1955 The government wants to amend the law. Unions and MTUC are opposing the amendments. Some say it is the worst set of changes in 40 years. What are the changes? Before Company employs workers directly. Now Company outsources. Company gets workers from sub-contractors. Many sub-contractors supplying workers to one company. --------------- Before Company pays workers' EPF and SOCSO. Now Company does not pay EPF and SOCSO. Sub-contractors are supposed to do it. But many sub-contractors don't. --------------- Before Company pays salary to workers at the end of the month, gives annual leave and if you're sick and have an MC you don't have to come to work. Now Sub-contractor pays salary -- and he can pay the salary whenever he wants to. Basic salary is only a few hundred ringgit. No MC accepted, no annual leave. If you don't work, you don't get paid. --------------- Before Workers can form a union. All workers belong to the same employer, so can collectively negotiate for salary increase, benefits, etc. Now Workers all belong to different sub-contractor, cannot form a union. Cannot negotiate salary. No job security because sub-contractor can fire you anytime and who can you complain to. --------------- Before If company has been unfair to workers, you can take company to court.
