The "MPFA Investor Education Launch Event" organized by Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority was held on 21 to 23 May at Olympian City II, providing a platform for the consumers to learn more about MPF and retirement planning. As supporting organization, the Institute of Financial Planners of Hong Kong (IFPHK) arranged for a group of CFP certificants to provide free and professional consultation advice for the public. Some of the participating CFP certificants speak out on the the value and importance of the event.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the implementation of its Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF), HSBC chose a dynamic lighting and control solution from Traxon & e:cue for a temporary installation on the exterior of its headquarter building in Hong Kong, China. To create a media screen large enough to reach the eyes of the masses, 275 ultra-bright, fully-customizable Dot XL-6 RGB systems were installed on the building' s façade, resulting a visual masterpiece capable of text, graphics, and video animation. Suitable for daylight viewing while able to shine brilliantly through adverse exterior conditions, Dot XL boldly communicated HSBC' s desired messaging to customers, staff, and passersby, informing everyone of the company' s achievement and involving all in the celebration. The installation's eight e:pix universes were controlled via an e:cue Lighting Control Engine fx (LCE-fx) and a Video Micro Converter (VMC), which enabled direct video output with pixel-to-pixel mapping, showcasing HSBC's advertising and celebration messages on a dramatic scale. Each Hong Kong permanent resident aged 18 or over will get $6000 and reductions of 75% in salaries tax and tax under personal assessment, capped at $6000, says Financial Secretary John Tsang. In announcing these revised measures to the 2011-12 Budget after meeting some legislators on March 2, 2011, Mr Tsang said, under the new proposal, people can choose to draw the full $6000 through a platform depending on their needs, and there will be incentives to encourage them to save. The new measure will replace the original proposal in the Budget which suggested injecting $6000 into Mandatory Provident Fund accounts. (j.mp )

The Mandatory Provident Fund was introduced to make better provision for the elderly. For many, it's a case of too little too late, and high management fees. As a result it may well not be the best option for a secure retirement.

Financial Secretary John Tsang says he will consolidate lawmakers' recommendations concerning the 2011-12 Budget and come up with proposals to address people's concerns. Speaking to reporters after meeting legislators on February 28, 2011, Mr Tsang said he had listened to people's views on the fiscal blueprint and they expressed their aspiration for a tax rebate and concerns over the proposed Mandatory Provident Fund injection.
